Last weekend *HmS*JustMe and I went to a Gun Show in Salt Lake City. For those around the world who have no idea what a Gun Show is, it is where private gun owners and stores and gun dealers can get together and trade and sell and buy weopons. It was held in a Convention Center in Sandy UT. There was about 300 vendors there and almost any kind of Handgun or Rifle could have been bought.

I was talking with a guy and his wife there (yeh I am a talky type person and like to talk to any one new lol) and well this guy almost brought a Tear to my eye.

We were talking about the military and if we both were in or not. Found out we were both Viet Nam Vets (me 1970-1971) (him 1969-1970).

When I stepped off the plane in San Fransico and while walking to the terminal I was shouted at by a group of war protesters. They were yelling at the 5 of us that got off the plane that we were "Baby killers", "Murderer's" "warpigs" and was pelted with garbage, tomatoes, and just stuff. It was a hard time for me and I was really mad. But after thinking about it, with out some of us being in the military and fighting for our country for what ever the reason, this form or freedom of speech would not be possible. This mind set did relieve my anger towards the protesters but did not deminish the HURT.

If this was done in any other place that was not a free country these people would have been shot. hung or in prisoned. (like Earlier Iraq, Communist China, Iran, Cuba, and before the fall, Russia.)

When this guy and I were about to go our own way he put out his hand and Thanked me for defending his country at that time. I did the same. As we started to walk away from each other he turned back and hugged me and said "Soldger, Welcome Home."

I can't remember if I was ever welcomed home from Viet Nam before. and I got emotional about it. With a Tear in both of our eyes this guy who I do not know his name but feel a kin ship to, smiled and walk away to do our own business at the show.

So now I pass this on to others who were in the American Army and fought and died in the Viet Nam Conflict.

WELCOME HOME. and thank you for your duty to my country and the perserving of free nations around the world.

I had a grand welcome home when I came home from the Falklands war in 1982 but 2 months down the line and we were all dog turds again. The average civilian doesnt begin to understand the mindset of the forces.

This was writen many years ago by Rudyard Kipling famous for the jungle book and other stories
tommy (42)
I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o'beer,
The publican 'e up an' sez, "We serve no red-coats here."
The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:

O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away";
But it's ``Thank you, Mister Atkins,'' when the band begins to play,
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it's ``Thank you, Mr. Atkins,'' when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,
But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls!

For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside";
But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide,
The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,
O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide.

Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap;
An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.

Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy how's yer soul?"
But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.

We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints:
Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;

While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind,"
But it's "Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind,
There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,
O it's "Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind.

You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires an' all:
We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.

For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
But it's "Saviour of 'is country," when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
But Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool - you bet that Tommy sees!
