Might as well start a thread about reviews for this game.

While I now have it installed, other thatn a fast launch I haven't played it yet. However, just so you know you there are two separate launch modes - single player and multiplayer with 2 separate icons - kinda daft. Just like Medal of Honour. However, whats really stupid is you need to do a setup (graphics, sound, keyboard, etc) for BOTH modes - they don't port over.

Looks like single player is just that - only one player in the campaign. The other "single player" mode is ZOMBIE - although with Steam gone offline I can't even check that out to see how it creates a server. The multi player has many modes just like advertised. The only "coop" mode looks like a COMBAT TRAINING - where you can play with your friends against bots (I think). However, if you play in COMBAT TRAINING the weapons you might get or any level ups are NOT transfered to online mulitplayer - keep that in mind.

If you all gung-hoo to play it online, don't be suprised if your outa luck. Steam is very touchy today with everyone dowloading or connecting - its been on and offline many times this morning since the game unlocked. Someday they'll get it right (uh huh).

I know others have already been playing online - please give some impressions when you get a chance.

I do not have a review, because I can not play it...
If there are more people with launch or playing problems read this:

Treyarch, Steam, And When A Patch Is Going To Be Released

-First of all, I get the "stuttering" problem in singleplayer & multiplayer. If anyone doesn't know the difference between a stutter and a lag-spike, it's when your CPU (or GPU) can't handle the process on your computer and gets maxed out causing a freeze-frame or "Stutter". "Lag" is when the connection between the host or server and the client has a problem, causing high ping which adds the rubber-banding known as lag. Because of this I have barely even touched MP.

-For those of you who do not get stutters, I would not be surprised if your computer meets well over the minimum requirements and thus your computer won't choke just due to raw processing power and memory.

-Where does Steam come into play? Steam is a memory hog, but usually doesn't cause ridiculous amounts of stuttering. It might spike a bit when Steam Friends goes off and on constantly, or you are reminded when someone is online, but honestly it shouldn't consistently cause the hard stutters most people like myself are getting.

(trust me I tried turning it off completely) It did nothing.

-My rig meets the minimum specs though, and ingame there are plenty of areas where I actually get max FPS, just constant stutters in between bursts of max FPS. (And no I do not have my settings overclocked on maxed, either.)

2GB Memory
Nvidia 8800 GTS
3.2 GHz AMD Athlon x2 64

-Ingame my GPU is hardly taxed while my CPU gets 100% consistently. The reason for this being, the game is poorly optimized which isn't surprising since in the video game industry, when a console game is made for the console it's then ported over to the PC. Usually when a game is "ported" to the PC, the aim is to make it playable and usually nothing more after-wards.

-Second thing is, Treyarch, the developers who made Black: Ops don't look at this forum. They only look at the official Call Of Duty forum here. People are complaining there just as much as here, and are suffering the same problems.

-The community manager for Black Ops, JD_2020 has given no response yet towards the PC problems. Of course, he will let you know that he hit the top 15 leaderboards for zombie mode on Twitter.

-The only response so far is if you haven't seen it yet, this thread. Unfortunately it seems like the PC team, "knows there is a problem" but it doesn't seem like a patch is going to be released anytime soon. Realistically, I'd see a hotfix at most in maybe 2 weeks. For an actual patch you might be looking for fixes well over in the next month if the "stutter" and "lag" problem is really serious.

-So to sum it up, that's Activision for you. PC comes with secondhand support and launches a completely unplayable game for most of us. Don't believe me? There was about 70,000 players on the PC during launch day, while there was about 1,000,000 XBox LIVE players. It's pretty obvious who gets priority.

-It's pretty obvious who will get priority when it comes to support. It's pretty sad when Call Of Duty, a series that originated on the PC, is getting to the point where dedicated servers aren't common place and it's acceptable to release an unplayable game for the PC launch.

I just can't believe I paid $60 for something I'm going to have to wait indefinitely for someone at Treyarch to make playable.

--- P.S.

I'd like to add that in the PC gaming industry, there is a certain point when the games go "Golden".

What this means is after a certain point in development, the game is eventually shipped out to the many CD manufacturers and they box up the game all nice for the shelves at your local Gamestop. This of course takes time, and most developers use this time to fix more bugs for a launch-day bug hotfix. The reason for this being is they have deadlines they have to reach for their publishers, so inevitably most games in this day and age will have bugs.

For example, Obsidian Entertainment did this for Fallout: New Vegas.

The fact I suggest two weeks is because it sounds like they are not on the ball and are just realizing the issues the PC is having. This is better than absolutely nothing, but ultimately it means it will take more time for them to do anything.

Go to your steam folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam.
Then
steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\players
then
Open the config_mp.cfg file with word or something along that line.(you may need to rename the extention to .txt)
Edit seta r_multiGpu "1" to say seta r_multiGpu "0" if you have a single GPU card.
Edit seta r_multithreaded_device "0" to say seta r_multithreaded_device "1", this will enable multi core.

Another small fix is when BO is running bring up task manager set steam.exe to low priority and set Blackops.exe to high piroity.
This definitely help reduce my lag.

Got this off a forum I belong to try this out
