And still want to play your older games?
Make sure you get Windows 7 PROFESSIONAL or ULTIMATE instead of the home versions. It costs a little more but you can download (from Microsoft) a package called VIRTUAL XP MODE that runs in the background.
If you have the HOME versions, you can with a bit of computer know-how set your machine up to run in a dual mode, but you need to reboot your computer to switch between Windows 7 and XP.
With the PRO or ULTIMATE versions you can create a VIRTUAL mode where you still run in Windows 7, but can have an XP mode running simultaneously to let you run older programs. Of course there may be other issues involving your hardware, but at least you're half way there.
I've not done it myself for games, but we do this at work in order to run some older programs we have.
Alternatively if you have Vista/Windows7/Windows8 you can use vmware player on any version (assuming you have an xp licence and ISO/CD/DVD to install from or using below alternative method, eg:
Its free of course :)
If you dont have an XP CD or what ever you can extract the key / image from windows xp mode download using:
1. Download Windows XP mode from the microsoft site 2. Using WinRAR, extract the exe file 3. rename xpm. to xpm.rar 4. extract the file with VHD in the name and the file named KEY 5. Rename key to a txt file so you can get the key
Then import the VHD into vmware and follow the below modification to your newly created vm so it can activate.
I am root. If you see me laughing, you‘d better have a backup!

Please make sure, that You own a valid license key of Windows XP before You set up a Virtual Machine with XP. The license key from the XP-mode download is only valid in combination with a Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate key. Everything else is illegal and therefore should not be promoted on this forum!
