Hi guys. I was wondering what's the biggest map that a person can make? And how big would be to big? The reason is that I want to know is that I'd like to make a map based on personal experince.
For which game, and what do you mean with big? Big as in lots of objects, or big as in large area? I don't know about other nova games, but for JO you can use an area of about 16 by 16 km (you can go further to 65 km, but tiles will not work correctly anymore then).

What are the limits to the types of objects?
Here are the limits as they stand now:
MAX: at all 1200 ! (showing objects)
Waypoint Lists : 128 / 122 to use Waypoint in one List : 32
Markers at all: 768
Triggers: 128 / 99 to use
Teleport Targets: 255
Organics: 235
Vehicles, emplaced weapons, and some dynamic items: 1200
Decorations, buildings, foilage: 1200
there are not really a rule for total objects ! its really much stuff what influence the limit. its only a guide line. together with non showing objects you also can sometime go up to 1700 objects. watch your texture memory ! many different object types need much memory. AIs, Vehicle, Effects some dynamic objects need much memory !
One more thing, there number of buildings, people, etc are the absolute maximums. Depending on the construction of the map, sometimes you can push the limit with 1190 static objects and 240 AI, while with other maps 400 objects and 100 AI is causing the map not to work correctly. When you are creating lots of buildings yourself using modular objects like with the concrete docks and the Indonesian walls and filling those buildings with AI, you will hit the limit earlier then when you are making large outdoor maps with mostly banyan trees and a building once in a while.
When you reach that limit, AI will no longer be able to attach to mounted weapons on vehicles, the mounted weapons no longer show up in the HUD (pressing shift+2 to switch to the gunner position in an APC will place you as passenger instead), vehicles will start falling through objects and later players and AI will start falling through objects as well. So test your layout often to see if this happens.
The problem doesn't have to do with how many objects you used, but with how close to each other they all are. In a test map, having 342 concrete dock pieces worked, adding 324 scattered paper objects on them as decoration caused helis to fall through the dock pieces in a test map, after moving the papers off the dock pieces everything worked again. Another test, adding 120 more dock pieces next to current one: no problem. Moving the 120 newly added more dock pieces directly above and below current ones: collision failure.
