The simple frustration of being nickle and dimed by new games requiring constant upgrading. It seems that there is always something I need to upgrade on my computer to play the more intensive games. recently a new X1950 pro video card. I'm sick of it. So I have joined the masses and bought an XBox 360. Knowing that i can go to the store and buy any xbox 360 game and it will work without constant upgrading is nice. 1080i video is also a plus. I believe that microsoft is forcing the issue with the lack of support in Vista, all in all gaming is shifting back to the consoles where programmers dont have to deal with the infinite amout of driver support. Its easier to make a game where the parameters are exact for every game console. Ill still be around to play LW and TFD.

Game on!!!

I think you have a valid point, if you look at the cost of a decent computer that will run the new games and the cost of a games console which has a greater variety of games to play.

But I think even the games consoles are in an upgrade or stay behind situation as well, every couple of years a new console is brought out with new features and capabilitys, do you upgrade to that or get left behind, and are the games backward compatable, probably not if you switch consoles so you would be stuck with one brand.

If you compair the games released for pc's to consoles, the gap is growing, its driven by consumer demand, the more people have a console the higher chance the games developers will release the game for the console rather than pc, Nova are doing it now as well.

You are still going to have to have a computer in the house for surfing and e mails, I always think a high end computer will last about 3 years before it needs upgrading to keep it high spec, or 5 years until it starts showing its age and becomes a pita.

Running a pc is expensive, a high end graphics card costs the same as a console which is daft when you think about it, its the greedy software and equipment manufacturers pushing their profit margins up so they make an extra 100 mill to please their share holders this year at the expense of us all, if parts and software wernt so expensive more people would stick with pc's.

It is complicated to make sure your drivers are uptodate and that you install the latest Direct x, etc etc, when you can just stick a cd in a games console and play it, it cuts out the hassle.

But at the end of the day, as i said earlier, you will still need a pc even if its for checking e mails and surfing, so do you use the tool your using every day and keep it uptodate or get another bit of kit that needs updating as well.
I guess it depends on how good you want your graphics quality to be, JO is getting old but is still a good game, and will run on a computer not stuffed with the latest high spec components, but its the last of its kind in that respect, I suspect Novas new game will require a good computer along with all the other new games for the pc now, when you look at the graphics quality you can get from them its understandable.

Will I be buying a games console...... probably not, my computer does many more things than play games, and I have many friends here that I would miss if I started getting into console games, I dont have enough time to play on both.

Good luck with your new console.

aaahhhh HHHAAA, you said you didnt know where the DFLW disk is !!!
you might be a fox, but a old fox, did somebody mention gray hair,, mmm

I will stick to PC gaming, I tinker with them, even tinker with the old ones, somebody throws them away or they give them to me, fire em up, tweak them, scrap them, always learning. I can edit videos, watch videos, burn videos, edit music, burn music, print photos, e-mail, ( sshhh look at things when the wife isn't around ), drool at the new stuff on tigerdirect.com, read/watch the news, watch TV on the PC, by the way, its the best stereo I have.
yes there always be a up-grade, but like the fox said, you can pick older games for less, play the snot out of them and run them on a older machine.
as for console games, too much money, too many systems, no down load trial games to try ( correct me if I am wrong ) hooked up to the TV, the Sony trinitron still has a great picture, even though the electric meter spins a little faster when its on!!
