Battlefield 1942 is such a game, but you'll probably need that new puter for it too...
There are several of us that have 1942 and have the Desert Combat expansion pack (free download), and we used to play it pretty frequently. But we never had a DC server up on a regular basis. Most of us are now playing Joint Ops for that type of game. It is really cool. But the screenies from Battlefield 2 sure look impressive... [ Edited Thu Mar 03 2005 ]

For you guys/girls that playing the demo and dont want to see the loadup movie everytime you start the demo, follow this simpel knowhow.
Disabling the Intro Movies
The introductory movies to BF2 are quite annoying, and generally increase startup times for the game. To disable them, you should not delete the movie files - this may cause problems with Punkbuster. Instead, simply rename the relevant files in your \Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2 Demo\mods\bf2\Movies\ directory to something else (e.g. rename dice.bik to dice.backup). The files to rename are: demo_b2legal.bik, demo_bf2release.bik, demo_demolegaltext.bik, demo_locknload.bik, dice.bik, EA.bik and Nvidia_logo.bik. This will mean the intro movies are all skipped as BF2 starts to load.

Played the demo - hmmmm. Its really just a hyped version of desert combat. If you only have the minimum recommended system requirements - don't even bother. The recommended specs run it fine, but the demo doesn't seem to give the full high res that you would want, so its hard to really compare.
The demo only really comes with 2 maps, both are small so its hard to do a comparison again. The sounds are more realistic - no more big explosions from a hand gun. The AI also seems a bit better. Haven't tried it online yet.
So far I'd give it a 7/10 - maybe the full version will change my mind - if i get it.
