I have seen Arma, but not played it. I am thinking of hiving it a go. Should I just wait for Arma2 or start off on Arma1 ?
What I've read about ARMA1 is that its not that impressive - poor reviews. ARMA2 is supposed to be a new(er) engine so its supposed to be better.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS on ARMA2
I have it and have only tried the Boot Camp - and so far I'd have to say I'm not very impressed. The graphics are not supper high like you might think, In fact I'd say the graphics make it damn hard to play as the bad guys blend in so well you REALLY have to be on your toes to even see them.
Already I've found a few glitches - on the Firing Range it got stuck in a loop - the guy kept telling me I'd failed the range when I hadn't even fired a shot yet - only just reloaded. On the Med Aid part it wouldn't let me drag/carry the guy anywhere.
Driving is interesting-just don't oversteer or you'll go in a circle pretty fast.
The weapons so far are pretty good, but it takes getting used to the method to re-arm or change loadout.
Its the type of game you need patience with and take a long time to play, no running in wailing away like in JO. If you die - you restart the map from the start-NOT a save point.
Granted, I've JUST started messing with it, but I always think that the learning curve for a game should be short. you should be able to sit down and start enjoying it right away, not have to sit there fiddling with the graphics and play settings to set it up to the way you like.
Ever play Shad's BLUE TAG with no tags and FF on? Or an Evil Bob map? Remember how frustrating that was the first time around until you figured out HOW to play smart? That's what this is like.
I'm sure more practice will change my impression, but for now I'd give it an overall score of 6.5/10.

i agree with you grunt those same things happen with me to in boot camp. on the graphic's side i thought they would have been better than crysis but there not and as trevor said it is power hungry .

The game has got to be one of the most realistic and tuff games i have played, sometimes it is not as much fun when it is super realistic.
We will have to see what the player made missions are like as they will be the deciding factor not the cp maps.
I agree 100% with not being able to see a darn thing and whats up withthe blurry thing, i may sit infront of a pc for way too long but i can still see farther than that in real life, if they are making this realistic give us a realistic field of view!

Right now I'd say hold off until we get a chance to try multiplayer coop more. So far I've only played the single player scenario missions of which I have only completed one. I find the AI in the game are not very smart - at least your guys aren't - they like to stand in the middle of the road for some reason instead of hiding beside the building.
THe more I read about this game it seems its been made for multiplayer gaming where your entire team are humans.
For those of you who really like realism, its pretty good - there's no running in full tilt in this game, you really need strategy and patience. I've yet to get close enough to blow up a BDRM (part of the tasks). Its damn hard. And once your dead or ANY team mates die (ie AI-who like standing in the road) die its game over. Annoying.
As for the fuzziness - its still there, even after tweaking every video control. It DEFINITELY doesn't look like the pictures they released. And I've had a few crashes where the video just goes nuts - but that might be because I'm using SLI graphics.
But all that aside, it does grow one you - IF you have the patience - just crank the brightness and gamma up.
I'm revising my original 6.5/10 rating to maybe a 7/10 - for now - but it still has a long way to go.

i have been playing it on the multiplayer part for 4-5 times so far, yes it is hard and yes without vt its chaotic.. you can spawn in the field, there are a spawn vehicle, and to get to it, you have to go to the flag at homebase and press enter.. Yes compared to JO there is NO room for blitzkrieg.. i wasnt really happy about this game at all from the first look.. but i must say, it grows on you, so.. my rating would be 8/10.

Put it this way, its been out for only a couple months and already you can get it for $10 LESS than when it came out. If a game is very good, the price stays high for a LONG time. Look at Crysis - that's been out for a long time and the price still is very high - just because its very popular and easy to play.
ARMA2 takes a while to get used to, and honestly isn't all that great. When I sit down to a game I don't want to have to spend hours figuring our HOW to play it - the basics are simple, but to get enjoyment out of the full capability of the game it's just not worth my time.
Definitely gone down to a 5/10. Someday I might have another look, but its very close it being uninstalled.
