Well, a short demonstration:
Just let's say You stumble upon a new thread in a forum with lots of posts from people who seem to have a good time with one another and find this as the only content in the new thread named "Not visiting here so often ":
This is my profile: Joined Sat Nov 11 2006 (4 years, 1 month, 1 week, 5 days, 18 hours, 27 minutes, 7 seconds ago)

And now compare this to the usual way someone introduces herself or himself in this community:

Hello everybody,
Just to give You the basic facts, I am 34 now and I am a student at the University of Applied Science in Dortmund, Germany, where I am living, too. I do study Wirtschaftsinformatik, which is translated as commercial information technologies or Business Informatics. Starting out from school with the wish to become reverend, I studied theology for 4 years (-> nickname Cardinal) and switched to IT after I realised I do not want to become reverend anymore. Since my marriage broke up (after two and half years, I am divorced now) I found a new companion for my life, You may even meet her here on HmS by the name of DLAB-Rory. I am a boy scout for the last 21 years and still counting. I am not into sports at the moment, but did enjoy rowing when I was in school. I love a good meal, a good wine or scotch whisky, reading a book or watching films (sounds like a snob couch potatoe, eh?!) Some say I am addicted to coffee, but I can stop anytime, be assured! (errr.... maybe, that is!) I like to work with my computers, hardware (all my machines are custom build by me) and software (coding software, websites and the like). It's my personal toy-train.
Started playing JO 15 month ago and quickly found my way into the HmS servers. Never found anything better!! (I admit I didn't look very much longer for alternatives, why bother when You find the perfect place to be?)
Okay, a little bit more than the basics! If anyones interested in more information, meet me on VT!
(BTW: DLAB stands for DV-Labor (an IT-Laboratory of my university which is responsible for maintaning the IT-infrastructure of the department of business studies. It is just a tag we put on our names before we discovered VT on HmS, talking on our own TS-Server, to show we know each other and play as a team.)
It does not nessescarly need to be that long, I usually do long posts, but ...
What kind of post would be more interesting to the other people? Which would be more interesting to You?
And You earnestly wonder why people do react a little ... let's say ... different than You expected? Have a look at the Who am I? section and then try again. I do firmly believe, posting anything that is different from just posting the facts everybody is already able to see from Your member profile will cause the response You were looking for! Promise!
Have a merry christmas and a happy new Year, unknown Arild!
