(48) I have deleted whatever setting I had in place to allow me to play DFLW on line with Norton Firewall Running. Now I can get through to the Public Forum and once it connects to a game the system freezes as the Firewall does its stuff. If I disable the Firewall once the screen has frozen the game continues to load. Anyone know what port and protocol needs to be enabled TCP/UDP etc and does the IP address of the game server need to be included. I fixed this 3 months ago and forgot to make notes in my PC notebook.
Thanks for the reply. Problem sorted and am back in business - if only the wife wouldn't keep complaining about that d*** computer and that silly game - they just don't understand how to relax after a hard day at the office. (27)

Now where's the artillery.
T34N. I've been playing on Hardmaps for a while now, and just now registered. I recently purchased a new computer and can't get into the game mode. Everything that you described as happening to you is now happening to me. A little help would be great about this Firewall thing. Help.....thanks L.H.O. (94)

Best thing to do if you suspect a firewall problem is to shut your firewall down for a VERY short time, then try and join a game and see if you can, if you can then you definatly know its a firewall issue. (96) (45) (64)

Wedge....Still won't go... (15) (15) (15) I have tried shutting the firewall down, with no luck. Not sure what else is different from this one then my last computer. They both run Windows XP pro. This is really ticking me off. (15) (15) (15) . Any other ideas..?????????
When I made the mistake of "upgrading" to Service pack 2 I ran into trouble like this. Windows was having a fit anytime I tried to play or host online. "DFLW is attemtping this", "Novaworld is attemtping that". But everytime it happened, this goofy little psuedo-window would pop up with a little shield on it and allow me to grant permanant access for the game.
I think it's a new "security center" feature that came with service pack 2. Regretably, I don't know how to call it up if it's not present and in your face. (42) I just set it to my task bar so I could always have a handle on it. Maybe do a search for it and see if you can get at it... if that's the problem. You said your computer is new, maybe the service pack 2 is a standard thing now with XP pro. (19) [ Edited Tue Dec 07 2004 ]

Service Pack 2 in XP automatically turns the built-in firewall to ON. To shut it down go to the Control Panel, Security Centre, and turn the Firewall to OFF. You should only do this if you have some other type of firewall (ie, router, Zone Alarm, etc)

Xan, Ran the update, and I believe it was successful. As far as the game mode thing. I can go to Hardmaps, and click it. It switches to the join screen, and then locks tight as a drum. At that point, I have to restart, and curse alot, and kick the dog a few times, and then get a beer....(Ok, I don't kick the dog, that was added for dramatic effect) I have tried turning off the Firewall, and that had no effect on anything. I'm at a loss at this point. Just knowing there are BG's out there laughing at me is tearing me up....LOL Any and all ideas welcome at this point. L.H.O. (94) (94) (94) (94) (94) (94) (94) (94) (94)

Those figures are the port numbers that need to be opened in your firewall both IN and OUT settings in XP. I do not know if you at the point when you had all working had also a router connected to where you could connect other computers like your old one.
If a router, that means that it could also prevent you from getting in to the game if they are not opened. If not, then it might just be those numbers that you have to type in to your settings in XP.
Please bare with me..Do not have XP my self so we will se if WEDGE (96) , Grunt (95) , Trevor (99) , Zim (102) (99) or any other in (36) with XP can help you out here.. Not easy at all times, I know that for shure (42) (59) (32)
