Great Tutorial. I do have a question though. this is my first time to do a bin file. You mention not to save it in the same directory that your mis file is located. So the question is where to save it and how to link it. Does the bin file go with the map once it is uploaded, or pulled into the final map or what. I have made several maps, just never put a bin file, so this is new. Thanks in advance.
I am root. If you see me laughing, you‘d better have a backup!

The .bin file will be replaced with an empty one during the development process. If You have already created content for it, save it temporarily in the folder above for example, where is pretty much unimportant, just not in the map folder. After You finished Your map just copy it back into the map folder and overwrite the empty one. Otherwise You will loose the content during development and You will have to recreate it over and over again.
It is just a safety measure during development, in the end the .bin file has to be in the same folder as the rest of the files!
Thanks for the info. I guess I am needing a little more detail than the instructions have. First let me tell you my background, it might help to understand my confusion. In the past as I have made maps, I simply sent the BMS file to the server. That was all that was asked for. So with the info above, I will now send the BMS and the BIN file to the server? Is that correct?
Second, you mentioned above that during the development process an empty one will be created. As I look in my files in the folder where my maps are, there are no bin files to be found. Each maps has a IFL, Text Doc, BMS and MIS file, but no bin files. I have a feeling that this has something to do with the BIN2TXT and TXT2BIN file that I downloaded from this site, but there are no instructions on how to use them.
Sorry for all the questions, but if someone can give me some detail on this I would appreciate it. I really want to learn how to use this as I have several AW2 maps ready to go, but I need to put this thing in to explain them. I have been making maps for about a year using DFXMED but if it does not happen in there, I do not know how to use it. Thanks in advance.

A bin file is not automatically created, you have to create it yourself. Download the blankbinfile.txt I created and use that as a template. You then use the tools txt2bin to create your bin file.
As i say in the tutorial - if you have a bin file in the same folder as the map you are working on you will loose all the goals from xmed.
I have always found it best to finish the map totally then create the bin file.
ok, been working on this and have most of it working fine. I have used your tutorial as well as another I found on the internet. I am going to post the bin file here and see if someone can tell me why my goals are not showing. They show as a box and nothing more. Please keep in mind this is my first time. Thanks again in advance.
'[Mission Dialog]'
'[info]' Title = "OEF"; briefing = "The Taliban have taken over this small province of Afghanistan. They have built up an elaborate communications network, stockpiled
weapons and have planes and supplies ready for an all out offensive. Your mission is to take out the targets listed below. If you do not take each
and everyone out within 45 minutes, your mission will be considered a failure. Intel has been provided and we have marked MOST targets in Red, but
not all targets are marked as we have not had good intel in the last few days. Good luck and shoot straight. "
No, I have not edited the map since I made the bin file. I did what you mentioned in the tutorial and on the post. Finish the map, then make the BIN file. What I have done is to save the original files in another directory on a different drive. That way I can go back and do anything at a later time if need be. I made the bin file, and put it in the same folder as the original map (not the copy) ran it and the goals are gone. I have not opened it in AF2med since making the bin file.
Do I have “” marks in the wrong place or something? I just get s square box. The goals work by the way, they just do not show. I completed one goal and it showed and X in the box, but no Text.
To make sure that I did it correctly, I just moved a copy from the backup drive into the JO – Advanced Warfare folder with the bin file and ran it. I got the exact same thing. I am really not trying to make this hard! LOL I just want to learn this.
