Are you serious?!? They've brought Doctor Who back? Can someone over there elaborate on where they picked up the timeline -- no pun intended. Who's playing him now? How are the effects looking? Did they redo the inside of the Tardis again.
As an aside, in like '97 or '98, FOX network here in the states had a two hour Doctor Who movie starring Paul McGann (sp?) as the doctor... the "7th Doctor" stepped out of the Tardis in the middle of a gang fight and got whacked, then regenerated in the hospital morgue. It was actually pretty well done.
As another aside, Americans shouldn't waste time trying to pronounce "Dalek"... (23) just doesn't sound right without the UK accents.

The UK element can fill you in better Deep - but Dr.Who has been going for a full season already, and season 2 starts soon. In fact season 3 has already been approved.
The first Dr. was Christopher Eccleston who has gone into other things. The 2nd season Dr. is David Tennant and begins I hope REALLY soon.
The show is very very good - holding to some old traditions but introducing new elements as well - and yes - the inside of the tardis is redone - pretty funky.
I'm not sure what cheannel done there in the US carries it - but you REALLY have to find out - its well worth it.
BTW - the episodes are 1 hour long EACH now - way cool.

Second series starts late fall, 1st was classic, great special effects, loads of humour and great stories, Dr got his 1st kiss in 41 years (even Wedge has a better record - Ah no, Wedge is only 30 LOL) Billie Piper the former pop singer plays his side kick (Rose Tyler)
Oh man, this sounds sweet! But as far as the first kiss thing goes...in that 2 hour movie I mentioned before, the Doctor and his companion Grace kiss. She was the heart surgeon who tried to thread some sort of scope into the 7th Doctor's heart when she got lost -- there being two hearts -- and "killed" him. After he regenerated, he stowed away in her car in his hospital gown and starts screaming "What is this?" as he yanks the rest of the instrument from his chest. Wild.
So are they counting this new series as following the original...I mean, it sounds like he's burned up a couple regenerations already. And, from what little I saw, it seemed like the 7th Doctor was cleaning house as far as villans go in anticipation of cancellation.
Doctor Who was only ever on in the states on Public Television. I can't speak for other markets, but where I'm from they would take an entire story --all the half hour segments -- and show them as 90+ minute features. I got a lot of Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker(ofcourse) and Peter Davison and even a few Colin Baker's on tape.
But, because Doctor Who was wildly popular and Public TV survives strictly on Government (read: tax payer)money and community donations, the execs at Public TV held Doctor Who over the viewers' heads during a donation drive: "Oh...this is an expensive show, you better donate if you want to keep the Doctor..." Well, that was back in the early 90's when the sixth doctor was finally being shown here. His trial never even made it to the airwaves in my market. I think Sylvester McCoy's Doctor ran half a season here, but the donations just weren't there.
grunt, does Canada have the same VHS format as the U.S.? I was under the impression it's different over seas. Maybe I can mail you a stack of tapes? (86)
"Bless me Father for I have sinned" detracting from a Star Wars thread like this. (69) But I was always a big "Who" fan too.

Yes-we have the same format as you - in both VHS and DVD (and even Beta if you remember THAT fiasco-LOL). But since I've seen a lot of them as a kid, save your $$$. I have a feeling that a network in the states probably WILL pick it up since it will be great for ad dollars.
The first season is already out on DVD in the UK, hope it hits here sooner or later - wouldn't be suprised if it gets popular again the entire series will hit DVD over here - one can only hope. Right now you can get sections here and there, but it would be cool if you could get the entire series.
Deep, you need to check out Suncoast. They have all the old Dr. Who's on DVD. Besides, I think if you were to sweet talk one of our european components, they would gladly purchase and send it over here - so we both could watch it!
