Hi Folks, I think my playing time in DFLW is over. I had a computercrash and because of compatibility I chose for an Imac as a replacement. Terrific thing, but: Nova's games dont work in osx, except for BHD, which I dont like. I really tried to get it working in some way, but to no avail.
Which means gaming on Hardmaps is not possible anymore. ;-((((.
It has been a great time.

Cye.

Well, it is sad to see you go. I would just seek out a cheap PC that would run DFLW and JO. Probably cost about $200 for one that would do it.

Hate to see ya leave. Take care.

Hi beerdrinker, you are damn right, but I use Parallels, which is windows as a virtual machine on a running OSX, for i tend to play my game in between work and as a thinking pause. Bootcamp makes me boot my machine into windows alas, so I cant use other things at the same time with bootcamp.
Parallels i tried in all aspects, but the graphics are unusable and the machine is too slow even in SP games. I am stuck...

Maybe You can get a cheap PC and run it with just the games. The Games are usually not very much demanding on the CPU side. An older PC with a suitable video card and 1 GB of RAM should do. No need to have an high end PC for the old games.
A KVM-switch for the monitor and You can switch between the two machines without the need of a new monitor.
Try to get a cheap windows PC.

Other alternative: Repair Your old one if possible. What was the crash about anyway? Harddisk? CPU? Mainboard? Maybe just replace the defective part? If You need help or hints, just ask me on VT!

D-lab, the PC was bonkers for some time. Memoryproblems, a faulty mainboard, USB dropping away, SATA wrong. After 2 years this dell is proof of dell's quality. Ill look into another old machine repair is a bit too much, i know how to. btw, a monitorswitch is impossible. My Imac has everything inside the 24 inch monitor. With bluetooth for mouse and keyboard and wireless lan the only wire is the mains. Great. Thanks for the tips anyway, Ill see what I can do.

Hope Wedge doesn't read this - he is a Dell convert and as far as I know has never had problems with Dell computers for many many many years. Maybe you got a dud, or did you mess with it?

hehehe, messing with a PC is what the thing is all about. Thats why the towers are so big.. But with this one I have been very, very moderate indeed. I only added 1 IDE drive, replaced the C with a 500GB, added another 500GB and left the old 320 drive for storage (4 drives is not that much? ;-). But I did not overclock, did no watercooling and basicly left the system for what it was. Oh I used two screens, but that is just the outside.
- The RW-drive made unreadable DVD's. Nice
- Readerrors on memory, quitting your apps with a bang.
- regular contact errors with the processor. (wobble it and it works for some time)
- USB just quitting all action.
The main problem being the mainboard, but not the only problem.
And in my workplace they are into Dell too, 45000 machines in all. But the adminstrators are very unhappy with laptop batteries, CD-drives, more problems than toshiba ever had. Happily all monitors are Eizo. Its Wedge right to be into Dell, we have the third Apple now, only one PC left, Aldi/Medion, 6 years old and still going strong.
Imagine to access your Apple on your home desk from a hotspot at some railwaystation on your Macbook by Wifi? Very practical sometimes, I am very forget-prone with essential documents.
I'm a Apple convert now. My only dream is Novalogic games for real computers.... ;-)

You might have strained the power supply, if you look at the wattage on the side of the psu its usually not huge, enough to do what you ordered but not a whole lot else, Dells are not really upgradeable even to add extra drives, if you leave them alone I have found them to be very reliable bits of kit, I have had 5 towers and a laptop from dell and 4 of them are still going strong, the only reason the 6th isnt is its a 450mhz p3 which is only good for a paper weight in todays computing.

Login to ebay and get yourself a cheap computer for lw.

Thanks for the reply Wedge, but I measured the load and it all fitted nicely in the specs. I might have had a lemon, but a Inspirion big tower should be able to support at least the drives the box can handle. Which is 4.
But Ill have a look into some older pc to run dflw. I miss it. A lot. (yes i am addicted...)
