Running a BF2 server takes a huge amount of resources and connection bandwidth. We used to have a server but it couldn't handle what we were throwing at it - we had to choose between BF2 and JO - JO won out. The biggest problem was we were hosting the HardJustice mod (www.wccsquad.com) - which is for coop play. This mod really chews up resources - but really is worth a look.
When we want to play it we might put a small HardJustice server up, or join any of the bigger dedi servers out there.

BF2 is fun if you play some of the Mods for it, playing it out of the box is a bit dull to be honest, as by the sounds of it you have found out.
BF2 didnt come with Coop as standard, its only with the last couple of updates that they added a Coop option, but a Mod called Hard Justice was designed by some clever big brainy types which made BF2 worth while in Coop.
Another Mod is called Battle Racer, its a racing game that uses the BF2 terrains, and alot easier than Track mania Nations lol
wccsquad.com for the Hard Justice or ask grunt nicely and he might give you another option.
Battleracer.com for the racing Mod
We play these at times, we just throw a server up when we are in the mood for a game, so dont give up on BF2, and yup JO is still the better game, if your around and we are going to have a game we will give you a shout m8.

Cool, i may give a few of the downloads a bash to see if it makes it more appealing. Just got my second gun unlock, both guns are worse than the standard equip
Anyhow i havnt been on vt or Joint ops for a while and the reason is - i had a crazy power surge a while back which screwed my pc up and i lost all my data, including my very first Coop map for joint ops, the darn thing took a month to make!!! and from then on i was in the huff with joint ops like a big kid who threw all of his toys out the pram. so i tried a few games in the mean time, the only one worth mentionin being BF2. I have made my peace with JO again and tidied all of my toys back up and ill be back on vt and JO in the next week or so, so see you all soon!!
ps - i should write a book or something, when i start typing i cant stop hehe

Well not having that much cash at the mo i've been to argos and got a 1gb usb flash pen thingy for £10 to tide me over. it'll hold about all the irreplacable stuff i have on pc, but i am looking to get a second harddrive so its nice and quick to replace stuff if anything does happen.

Well i've come to the conclusion BF2 looks great, sounds great and plays well.........But it's as dull as dish water with no depth, it is no longer on my machine.

i got bf2 somewhere.. i installed it downloaded huge maps and everything.. played it few times and uninstalled it cause i hated it, it was nice looking and everything, but JO is much more enjoyable to play. :D Wedge; i count on Seagates always.. i have tried many other hard-drives and seagate has been most trustable..

LOL - funny one heppari - in theory yes they are good, but of the drives I've had (seagate, western digital, maxtor, hitachi) ONLY the seagate crashed on me.
