Hello all,

I installed Ventrilo 2.3.0 tonight, but encountered some major problems with my audio files after the installation. I followed the hardmaps steps to install ventrilo. I clicked "test" and heard my name through the speakers - "bibi". I did an audio test with the microphone in the "setup" screen, and made sure I had directsound checked every place and my sound card was chosen.
When I went back to click "test" for my name, nothing came through.
I loaded Windows Media Player to play some of my mp3 files, and many of the frequencies were not coming through. You could hear the vocalist, but it sounded far away, you coulden't hear most of the instruments, and all the sound was distant. I restored the system to 3 restore points that I made before I installed Ventrilo, it didn't help. It also didn't help when I reinstalled my sound drivers.
It virtually wipes out my sound.

I turned off the system, preparing to reinstall Windows *completely*.
An agonizing task. WHen I turned it back on, the sound was normal.

I think the midi and/or wave files got corrupted, and my restored registry, after turning the system back on, fixed it. But I won't install Ventrilo again till I know the problem won't re-appear.

Everyone seems able to use Ventrilo without problems, and my Father uses it on his Windows XP Pro system ok. He has Service Pack 2 installed though, and he can't get the MED for DF3 to work, that's another thread.

Any ideas?

System: Windows XP Professional, SP 1, 512 RAM, P4 2.8 gig, Soundmax Integrated Sound 128 bit

Thats quite something m8, never heard that happen before when vt was installed.

The only thing I can think of is looking at your system specs is that your on-board sound is not upto running vt, vt does like a good sound card to run as it takes more resources and good codecs to run it that some other voip systems, but you do get a vastly superior sound quality from vt.

So I think unless someone else comes up with something you need to get yourself a new sound card, creative sound blaster live is a good one to get and is not expensive either.

Hope you get it working and we wil look forward to talking to you sometime :)

I really do want to get it to work. I got Ventrilo to the point where I saw the names and everyone chatting, but no audio came through. Changing my sound card - hmm, drastic. Do you know if Teamspeak 2 (albeit less used) makes less resource and codec demands?

Thanks

I gotta use one of these little guys....hmm....how about this one....

TS is not as demanding as vt, but you still might have problems with your on board sound, some on board sound are fine, it usualy just depends on the quality of your MB and how old it is.
