The human mind...
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a total mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.
This is quite intresting...as I was taking my classes in American Sign Language, we were learning about this...it's the shape of the word that people recognize. How cool!
The mind must be used to shapes of sounds and words. When learning Morse you start by learning the sound and counting the dit . and the dah - This is fine but only up to certain speeds because it becomes dificult to count in the time allocated. Pretty soon you get used to just the sound of the letter. pretty soon after that you get used to working out what the word is from the start letters. The biggest problem is when you drop speed and then you find you dont recognise the sound and have to start trying to count again. (42)
