So, now that you may have gotten it - whats the verdict???
Personally I think its a little lame, but haven't played really enough yet to get a solid impression. The game play is a LOT like STALKER where you have a HUGE area to run around and do missions. But in FC2 you get told what to do all the time - gets a little annoying.
Graphics aren't too shabby, and its does run very smooth.
SP is a bast since I found a program to manage and counter the single player annoyances and make the SP much more enjoyable for me.
Examples:
- When you pick up an enemy's gun it magically gathers rust, dirt and 10 years of neglected maintenance... counter acted.
- Stamina for running is pretty much not there... counter acted.
- Vehicles tend to gather rust and damage rather quickly... you can have undetectable vehicles, but you might not be able to finish missions that require vehicles be destroyed.
- Collecting diamonds... not collecting par say, but collecting enough for purchasing weapons... counter acted.
- Malaria... no cheat for this one yet, but it is quite manageable and it adds challenge to the SP game too.
The weapons and other sounds are excellent the way they are right now... except the death sounds. In SP you can shoot a dead corpse and hear him/her yelp and groan and it can through you off when keeping track of kills that are made.
MP is another story... can't cheat in MP (at least not me, plus Punkbuster is on the job).
I am not too crazy about the class system and earning weapons in MP, but there's no way around it in MP that I've found and it really puts pressure for team oriented tactics.
There's no COOP in FC2, only TDM and CTF type game play, but maybe a mod or an official patch upgrade in the future will remedy that fact.
The map editor is a thing of beauty, but there's alot to learn to really make innovative and excellent maps and right now only MP maps are possible. From what I've seen, the maps are kind of small compared to Delta Force maps or the FC2 SP. They remind me of COD4 maps.
The thing is that with the map editor, FC2 can potentially sustain MP replay almost as long as the Delta Force games.
