HmS Cardinal,

Do not be mistaken, we all appreciate what you and HmS do - it's why we play on your servers. And we all appreciate a quality of life, so I'm not asking that you sacrifice family time for the sake of game time.

But I would beg to differ the relationship between connectivity and available bandwidth, but we can do that through a private correspondence. Thank you for providing what has to be one of the last original remaining JO servers.

Easy:
Imagine a road with 2 lanes and imagine a road wtih six lanes both parallel to each other. Traffic runs smooth on both roads, all is fine. Now imagine another road crossing both roads with lights on both roads which just now switch to red in both cases. On which road does the traffic run faster when the lights are red, the two lane road or on the six lane road?

Let's say JO needs a 56k modem to run properly ... which would deliver usually around 48.0 kbit/s, Jo will take a good part of that, but not all, since the requirements usually do guarantee a good gaming experience.
Lets say there is 8 players on a JO server: 8*48 = 384 kbits/s
Lets say you experience a CI while being one of the 8.
Lets say the host has a line with ADSL (mind not even ADSL2!) which will deliver 12,288 kbit/s download and 1,440 kbit/s upload
Now we substract 384kbit/s from 1440 kbit/s (You may use a calculator if available) and see what's left ...
...oooups....
And now we rethink the theory of missing bandwith for a JO server and start looking at facts:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSI_model might be a good starting point...

(Hint: there is 7 layers of which every single one must function to deliver the signal and that is multiplied by the number of devices Your signal runs through to get from Your PC to the server and back ... Starting with Your PC we have the most important stations of Your signal: the game, the operating system, the hardware driver, the network card, the network card of your modem, the modem network card driver, the modem operating system, the modem network card driver, the modem network card and just now the signal leaves Your home ... count for a rough 10 to 20 different routers and switches at Your provider, might be some more on the internet back bone that is connecting Your provider to the national network, routing the traffic overseas and into the national newtork of the host, the 10 to 20 devices .... bla, bla bla.... and retour bla, bla, bla)

I guess You get the idea, why mocking a host, with the sentence like "Is the server dedicated? Do y'all accept donations in order to purchase more bandwidth?" might just be not received in a good mood?

Cardinal,

I was sincere in my posting and not "mocking a host". I've cut personal checks before (e.g. 10th SOG) where I've sent donations in support for server costs and overhead. Also, I've been in servers where they're run daemon to someone's PC. So both questions are legitimate.

And, I'm well aware of the ISO 7 layer networking model. I've actually coded in C multi-layered sockets for communication via UDP and TCP IP based protocols. Your "demonstration" of bandwidth is elementary at best and only serves your own vanity.

The fact remains for everyone, and I mean everyone, who plays on the HmS NA COOP servers for JO:E or JO:TR experiences frequent CIs. So when HmS replies everything was checked and re-checked on your end then fine, we're good up to the admin's ISP. But when EVERYONE has been posting about frequent CIs on your servers (locked posts no less) the only remaining issue is bandwidth. I even have Steam accounts (notorious for lag) that run without issue for even the oldest games. So I can honestly attest that it's not on my end. Again, everyone is complaining about it. If you want more of those screenshots, just let me know.

Lastly, try to take to heart that when someone posts on your forums that they're sincere and wish to see the issue resolved, not to get in to a pissing contest.

Really, a pissing contest?

I spent from February 3 to March 2 trying to resolve your issues already this year, as shown in HERE

I'm sorry if you are still having trouble, but as I've said now twice before and will repeat for a third time now, I cannot fix a problem that is not caused either by my host computer, my modem, my router or my internet connection. I would think that someone as technically knowledgeable as you would be capable of understanding this concept.

Maybe you should call your internet provider and complain. Maybe Cardinal or someone else can help you. I don't know. But I do know that I can do no more than has already been done, and I won't waste any more of my valuable time on it.

After reading everyone's posts, I cant help but agree with everyone that has posted, and as everyone likes the TR NA server they believe in voicing their opinions.

To everyone experiencing CI's in the TR NA server, as Quick has said, he has done everything he can. We do our very best to run good quality servers, but we do have limited budgets and time.

Also no one is saying the CI's are not happening, it is just completely beyond our capability to do anything about it.

Any dedicated server run by a hosting company would push our financial resources. Hardmaps has always been run without anyone having to help towards the running costs, it is something I do myself. I may be weird, but I do it for the enjoyment of everyone. It is worth it to see everyone enjoying themselves. I dont like the idea (I never have) of people paying for things.

Let us all please just back off before it gets ugly. Previous threads have been locked to stop things getting ugly, ok this won't get locked at the moment.

We do like feedback, good or bad. We have been doing this for a very long time but the end of the day we are still people in our own homes running servers the to the best of our ability, we are just not able to provide 100% of gamers a 100% good connection to our servers.

All I can say is im from the UK and playing in Quicks server over the years and recently I have had a lag free fun time.

Sounded like one, was received as one, like it or don't, I do not care why, it did. Recommendation: Choose Your words wiser next time.

If we ever want to be offered money, will we surely provide a professional way to donate. Until then we do not want any money.
And the fact that a question is legitimate does not affect the fact, that it can be asked in various ways and to various ends in various situations. I fear You picked at least two of these wrong.

Good. So You're an expert.

Your "demonstration" of bandwidth is elementary ...

Thank You, I tried to give an easily understandable simple example, so everyone understands the concept of bandwidth, without the need to clutter everything up with network technology slang.

So where exactly is Your problem with us? (I already know, Your problem is CIs, but after You stated Yourself that we checked everything possible, what else do You expect us to do?)

Poncho88 wrote ...

Because we checked our server and our provider checked the line, the only remaining issue is bandwidth ... You allow me two minutes of rolling on the floor, laughing ...
I recommend to re-read my last post carefully and look for hints, why bandwith might not be the only remaining issue.

Sorry, but You are just a little bit more than wrong. Unfortunatly there are a couple of hundred more issues that may remain. And believe me, to exclude every single one will blast the budget of any service and support department beyond anything acceptable. So do not expect to be able to pin it down to one remaining issue. More likely the cause of the CIs will not be solved.
As far as I read it, a lot people can play without being affected. The people that are affected, did post to some extend or another. I feel sorry, their gameplay is hampered, but we tried everything, possible. We offer a lot of servers, maybe they can play on another one without CIs.

OK, so Steam runs fine and thats Your proof for everything being fine on Your end. No further comment needed here.

No need, Thank You!
We already believed You, when You first posted (I can remember Quick even spent a lot of his rare spare time to help You).
No need to state once more, that You think we are stupid or do not believe You or do not want to help You or whatever made You post the screenshots in the first place.

If You still do not know, what set me off:
Go and have a look on all the post where someone asked for help and I answered them. Then step back an try to come up with an explanation, why my answer on Your last post was so different than all the others.
If You find the answer, try to remember it the next time You ask for help with something, that was given to You as a gift from the heart.
Hint: It might be connected with the way You reacted on our efforts to help.
