For anybody who's interested...
On Godfathers forums we started a new project... You've seen maps which have to be played in sequel. Normally they are build by just one person. We started a bit of a new thing...
Announcing our latest and greatest mission design challenge.
Mission Type: COOP MOD: SG MOD 2.0
Simple huh? Well not quite that easy. Here is the hard and fast rules and instructions.
This mission will be based on an episode environment, each mission to take 1 day in the x days of the overall mission. "x will depend on how many entries we receive." How are we going to do that, you may be asking. Ok then here you go..
We will supply each entry with a template map, the mapmakers job will then be to build his or her mission within this environment. see below.
Current entries:
TMOldMan B1 to B4 Tacoma B4 to D1 hammerman D1 to A4 Crossbow A4 to C2 JobiWan C2 to A3 PRATCH1 A3 to D3 Ghostman1965 D3 to A1 Godfather A1 to C4 SGM-Bloody C4 to A2
As you can see the mission has been divided up into grid sectors. Each mapmaker will be assigned a start and end grid. They can then place their "Start Player" marker within your start grid, You then decide what path or paths you want or expect the players to follow. Then build your final battle in your end grid. 99% of the actual construction has already been done for you all you do is build the battle.
Now as I said each mission will in theory be one day, so if we get 7 entries we could then have 7 maps that link together in order and provide something completely new to the players.
Here are some sample screens:
A ready made environment all you do is plug in the mission.
Anyone care to step and and try their hand?
Rules SG MOD 2.0 ONLY COOP HUMAN BOTS ONLY GROUND BASED VEHICLES ONLY NO AI RESPAWERS WITHIN SIGHT OF PLAYERS GROUND BASED VEHICLES OR FOOT TRANSPORTATION ONLY (no gates or portals)
Each Mapper will be expected to complete the episode within two weeks from receiving the template.
Map Stats 20 marker 1 effect 223 building 107 decoration 175 foliage 1 vehicle 4 object 531 Total Objects
Each entry will be sent the same NPJ template. They will then make a copy of this file, to be used in NILE (DON'T US THE MASTER TEMPLATE WE SEND YOU IN NILE) We will then assign random start and end grids to each mapper, as mentioned above. The missions will the be tracked (via WAC) to make sure the missions are then played in the correct sequence. Meaning in the area where one mappers mission ends, another starts.
** NOTE use of this template for any other reason then the above mentioned competition is NOT permitted. and don't think we won't know.
It has to be made in NILE though... And it has to be made for the SG-mod2. You are not allowed however to use any of the alien AI or vehicles.
All vehicles have to be groundbased as well.
So if your up to something new and want to show you're Evil stuff, you are welcome to join in...

Also, what is meant with 'made in NILE'. NILE is a fine editor, but horrible when it comes to COOP gameplay. Will it still count when the map is converted to bms in the end? As basically the map is still made with NILE then, but doesn't have the flaws of the npj/npz file format.
