Apparently AMD - the other cpu maker - are buying out ATI - the other graphics card maker.
This is rather interesting seeing as how Nvidia and AMD alwasy seemed to run hand-in-hand. If they do it right, AMD should have some kickass boards/cpu/vid combos coming out in the near future.

I like AMD and ATI. Maybe you've just had badly supported ATI cards, Mono. The one I've had for about 3 years now has run flawlessly, and runs everything up to and including BF2. It is a "Pro" model card, though.

Well, I've had nothing BUT trouble with my ATI 9800-PRO, I've replaced mb's and psu's just to keep it happy (at the time it far cheaper to do that than get a new card). The card has finally heaved its last I think - getting loads of VPU recovery errors on it.....so its looks like upgrade time again - $1,250 worth - and thats only the system guts. Won't be a power horse, but its a solid gaming machine.
Then if AMD and ATI get their act together, maybe a kickass gaming computer in a couple years.

I've got the 9600 Pro card at 128 mb in a system that I built about 3 years ago now. It runs on an Asus "Deluxe" mb with the Nvidia chipset, that was pretty prime at the time I put the system together. Never had a problem with either (touch wood).
When I bought the 9600 Pro, I read mixed reviews on the 9800 Pro, that's why I went with the older (more reliable, apparently) card. Hmm.... ....Maybe I got the last of the really good batch of cards from ATI.
